Simple Stopper Knot – An Essential for Rock Climbing

The simple overhand stopper knot is a very common knot in rock climbing. It can be used in place of a figure 8 knot in some situations.

Apart from being a simple stopper knot, it is usually also used for securing the tail of the rope after tying it to your harness with a figure 8 knot. This is done for additional safety to reduce the likelihood of the knot coming to lose while climbing.

This knot is used almost anywhere that ropes, cords, or lines are used. It is commonly used on sailboats and other marine applications as well as many others.

This is part of our Essential Climbing Knots Playlist.
